Scholarships Available for Symposium for Jewish Children’s Literature

We’re excited to announce that we have scholarships available for our Symposium for Jewish Children’s Literature: Novelists and Publishing Professionals, which will be held from March 15-18, 2019.

The Symposium is designed for established and emerging Jewish novelists and publishing professionals, as we explore writing for and about Jewish children and young adults. It will be structured as a series of keynotes, engaging presentations, and panel discussions, coordinated with roundtable discussions led by faculty, reflective journaling, and sharing of experiences. The faculty will speak from their expertise as well as their experience as Jewish people in the publishing industry. The symposium is designed to be an exchange of ideas between participants and faculty. Find out more about the Symposium here.

We are grateful for scholarship support of the Symposium from:

Kar-Ben Publishing
Kar-Ben publishes about 20-24 new Jewish-themed children’s titles per year, from board books for little ones through middle grade novels. We have published many award-winning picture books as well as a number of middle grade novels that have become JLG selections.

PJ Our Way
PJ Our Way is a tween-powered book program. Kids ages 9-11 (and their parents) can choose a free Jewish chapter book or graphic novel every month. PJ Our Way members also write book reviews, review manuscripts with authors, and access activities and resources just for them. PJ Our Way is an extension of PJ Library, which sends a free Jewish book each month to families with kids ages 6 months through 8 years.

Jerome Weisman Scholarship Fund
Jerome Weisman was a staff illustrator at Highlights magazine from 1953-1996. Upon his passing, his loved ones created a Highlights Foundation Scholarship Fund in his name.

Further scholarship support for the Symposium is provided by the Jean Axelrod Memorial Foundation and the Elijah Fund.
