Andrea J. Loney

Andrea J. Loney’s picture books include the biography TAKE A PICTURE OF ME, JAMES VANDERZEE (Lee & Low Books New Voices Award and a NAACP New Image Award Nominee, illustrated by Keith Mallett), BUNNYBEAR (ALA Rainbow List, illustrated by Carmen Saldaña), and DOUBLE BASS BLUES (Caldecott Honor for illustrator Rudy Gutierrez). Her latest book is the middle-grade biography VIP: STACEY ABRAMS – VOTING VISIONARY (illustrated by Shellene Rodney), and her upcoming works in September 2022 include the chapter book series ABBY IN ORBIT (Albert Whitman & Company, illustrated by Fuuji Takashi), and the picture book biography CURVE AND FLOW: THE ELEGANT VISION OF LA ARCHITECT PAUL R. WILLIAMS (Knopf, illustrated by Keith Mallett). An NYU graduate, Andrea currently teaches Computer Science at Los Angeles Trade Technical College. She lives in Inglewood with her towering stacks of picture books, her devoted family, and their incredibly spoiled pets. Learn more at
