#HFGather: Shadra Strickland and Pat Cummings Talk Color, Light and Process

Apr 3, 2020 | HFGather, Illustration, Inspiration

On today’s Illustrator #HFGather, host Shadra Strickland and Pat Cummings talked about:

  • How lucky the #kidlit community is to have existing connection in this time of crisis
  • Finding your style: there’s no right or wrong
  • How to grow as an artist by letting other people and things influence you
  • The key is to “keep making the work”
  • The process of creating a book cover
  • Lighting in a piece is the kind of thing that can lift your work out of the pile

They shared a color challenge: limiting your palette to 4 colors, design an illustration depicting a ray of hope. If you do it, be sure and share it with us @HighlightsFound on Twitter and Instragram, and use #HFGather!
