Laurel Snyder

Laurel Snyder is the author of many books for young readers, including the Geisel-award winning series, Charlie and Mouse, seven middle grade novels, including Orphan Island, which was long-listed for the National Book Award, and over twenty picture books, including The Longest Night, which was honored with the Sydney Taylor Medal. A graduate of the Iowa Writer’s Workshop, Laurel now teaches in the MFAC program at Hamline University. She lives in Atlanta, and online at

Our campus (The Barn at Boyds Mills) is tucked away in the foothills of the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania.  It's a few hours from both New York City and Philadelphia, but worlds away from everyday life.
