Carolyn P. Yoder is the founding editor and currently the senior editor of Calkins Creek Books, the fifteen-year-old U.S. history imprint of Boyds Mills & Kane. Calkins Creek publishes nonfiction and historical fiction picture books, nonfiction, and historical fiction novels for middle graders and young adults.
Calkins Creek titles have won numerous awards, most notably the Sibert Medal; two Sibert Honors; the Coretta Scott King Illustration Honor; and two Jane Addams Book Awards. Previously Carolyn was editor-in-chief and associate publisher of Cobblestone Publishing; a writer and editor at the New Jersey Historical Society; director of the New Hampshire Antiquarian Society; and senior editor of Highlights Magazine.
Carolyn is the author of George Washington, the Writer; John Adams, the Writer; and three books in the We Are America series published by Heinemann. She has given many lectures and workshops on the writing of nonfiction and historical fiction for young readers. She also leads intensive writing retreats.
Carolyn received her BA degree in English Literature from Washington University in St. Louis, MO, and a MA degree in English Literature from the University of Iowa in Iowa City, IA.
She lives and works in Lawrenceville, NJ.
