Overview
Weekly Online Course
What is an image system and how can you use one to create your novel in verse? A term originally used in filmmaking, this technique encourages creatives to use setting and time period, the main character’s passions, hobbies, and viewpoints to craft connective and prolonged imagery within a piece of work. This creative tool is especially useful when it comes to novels in verse. Join verse novelist Cordelia Jensen for a four-week online course to establish the image system for your verse novel.
- Live Lectures (with closed captioning) Wednesdays at 7pm Eastern (April 15, 22, 29, May 6)
- Weekly Writing exercises April 15 – April 29
- Access to recordings of each lecture through June 30, 2026
- Connection with peers in the virtual classroom
- Weekly informal feedback from your instructor on assignments and open Q & A
Why This Workshop?
An image system is a powerful tool that storytellers use to connect all aspects of their stories– characters, setting, mood, and more. The novel in verse benefits from this prolonged imagery as a poetic way to weave together the story’s structure within the format of verse. Cordelia Jensen understands how to brainstorm, develop, and implement image systems into verse, and is ready to teach you ways that image systems can connect your verse with readers.
During this 4-week course you will:
-
- Attend lectures (or watch recordings), explore resources, and complete weekly exercises
- Explore how imagery can drive character development, emotional arcs, and plot
- Receive feedback in the virtual classroom on weekly writing assignments
- and more!
