Overview
A Mini Online Course
This short, generative course has been thoughtfully constructed to bring about creative connections, inspiration, and poetic abundance. Verse has a unique power to give voice to our inner stories—our memories, joys, challenges, and more—and poetry can unblock this expression to create flow as we access pieces of ourselves and bring them to the page. This course will give you time and space to bring words to the page. Join gifted poet Aida Salazar for generative writing sessions.
This program is a great fit if you’re looking for a short course of two, 75-minute sessions offering limited interaction with the community, and engaging poetry prompts.
- Monday, April 20, 2026 (7pm – 8:15pm Eastern)
- Wednesday, April 22, 2026 (7pm – 8:15pm Eastern)
- Webinar-style program with closed captioning available and limited interaction in the chat.
- If you are unable to attend either session for any reason, you’ll have access to the recordings (with closed captioning) through May 31, 2026.
Why This Workshop?
Join award-winning author Aida Salazar for this short generative course that explores ways to access creative flow through writing prompts, and exercises.
Aida will guide us through poetic experiences to bring ideas to the page, as we:
- Use generative writing exercises to help find your poet’s voice;
- Add tools in your toolbox to evoke resonance and connection in your poetry;
- Discover ways poets invite readers into memories, joys, and traumas;
- and more!
“As I became a more practiced poet, developed my craft and learned the expansive ways by which to render a poem, I understood something that isn’t given much attention in writing programs focused on craft. Starting a poem from the heart is as necessary for poetry as is knowing how to use poetic technique. Without touching on this essential piece, is it poetry at all? This said, it is through the use of figurative language, imagery, form, the music of the line, the economy of words, etc. that we are able to manifest language to convey what lies within the recess of our emotions in unique ways. It is the combination of both that makes a poem truly successful. The craft of poetry is a river that pours into the ocean of the heart.” —Aida Salazar
It’s a Great Fit If…
