Why This Workshop?

We believe in getting the very best stories to children and teens.

Part one of this journey is crafting the very best story. Part two is collaborating with publishing professionals to bring it into the world.

How do you know when you are ready to move to part two of the journey, and submit your manuscript?

Join editor Harold Underdown to answer this question and many others on your journey to submitting your work.

In this short course, we will discuss:

  • Knowing when you are ready to submit
  • How to prepare your submission
  • Where to find editors and agents who are eager for your work
  • Different strategies for submission, and selecting the one that is right for you and your work
  • The basics of querying (including case studies of successful submission practices)
  • The truth about (not) needing a social media “platform”
  • And more!

You’ll receive resources to pair with the presentations, including detailed handouts.

It’s a Great Fit for…

  • Writers of books for kids and teens. The examples shared will be from a multitude of genres (including YA) with a focus on submission of manuscripts (not illustrations).
  • Creatives new to writing for children and/or teens and want to learn more about the submission process. This course will offer suggestions for successful submissions to children’s book agents and editors.
  • Writers submitting and needing tips on ways to expand your submission process.
  • Storytellers looking for something short, sweet, and smart! This is not a full workshop, instead it is two, 75-minute sessions meant to engage and build your foundational knowledge about submitting to children’s book editors and agents.
