Imagine . . . your very own cabin—nestled in a peaceful setting in the rolling wooded hills of northeastern Pennsylvania. It’s early summer. The woods are warm, the winding trails inviting. You have no chores to do. No meals to cook. No kids calling for attention. All you have to do is the one thing you’ve been dreaming of having time to do: write.
Best of all, the cabins nearby will be home to a community of other writers, including two experienced authors (one is also an experienced children’s book and magazine editor). You’ll enjoy delicious meals together in The Barn—perhaps gather around the crackling fireplace in the evening for feedback, advice, support, and instruction . . . or just to chat. (Or not! Because this is your retreat and you get to decide.)
Solitude, space, time, and a writing community: it’s all been planned so you can retreat into your writing and devote entire days to developing and grooming your work. Whenever you desire, you can emerge from your writing cabin to enjoy camaraderie and inspiration as you receive feedback on your writing, take advantage of individual critiques/conferences, and informally discuss the field of children’s publishing.
Bring a work in progress or start something new! Attend social nighttime events or stay in and write. This is your time and your space. Shape it your way!
Authors Kim T. Griswell and Lori Ries will be your experts in residence—ready, willing, and able to answer questions, review manuscripts, discuss the writing life, give you an insider’s look into the editorial process, and offer instruction on writing essentials.
