Writing for Magazines 2015 | November 5 – November 8, 2015

Want to put your story, article, or activity into the hands of thousands of eager young readers—and get paid for it, too? Welcome to the children’s magazine market!

Writing for magazines is challenging and rewarding. This hands-on workshop will help you develop a strong—and saleable—story, article, or activity for children. You’ll also write a cover letter or query letter and get an in-depth look at the market. Topics include:

  • writing fiction and nonfiction for the magazine market;
  • tailoring your manuscript for a specific age group;
  • guidelines for submitting manuscripts;
  • one-on-one and group critiques;
  • tips on getting your foot in the door with puzzles, crafts, and other short pieces;
  • the role of social media in an author’s career.

For an invigorating and information-packed workshop, join Judy Burke, editor of Highlights; Lou Waryncia, former editorial director of Cobblestone Publishing; and Rich Wallace, novelist, Highlights author, and former editor.
