Taking Your Writing & Art to New Places: Published Authors and Illustrators at Work 2018 | September 24 – September 28, 2018

You’ve launched your career–now what? Discuss, dissect, collaborate, and grow.

We’re pleased to announce a brand-new workshop especially for published authors & illustrators!

Some of you have Unworkshopped with us, and we’ve noticed the magic that happens when you have time to talk about your careers, challenges, deadlines and upcoming projects.

We decided that kind of energy deserved its own space, so we created this workshop just for you! Author Jennifer Jacobson is our faculty leader and she’ll be joined by these special guests: author Ruth Behar, author An Na and author/illustrator Melissa Sweet.

  • Mornings: faculty & guests will offer presentations and activities intended to spark artistic leaps.
  • Afternoons: you’ll write, illustrate and collaborate according to your own goals.
  • Evenings and mealtimes: will be spent in community, making connections and filling the well.

With this workshop, we are aiming for meaningful conversation about how to continue to push the boundaries of our work. How do we acknowledge the power of our recurring themes and at the same time find ways to break new ground and find innovation?

Jennifer has already begun the conversation by interviewing our special guests about their creative process and careers:

Interview with Melissa Sweet

Interview with Ruth Behar

Interview with An Na

Authors and illustrators interested in this retreat must list the following when applying:

  • Two or more titles of your own published work.
  • A short paragraph indicating ways in which you hope to grow as a writer or illustrator.
