Carving Out Your Picture Book for Submission 2016 | October 26 – October 29, 2016

This intensive workshop is meant for intermediate to advanced authors and illustrators. Picture book folks–authors, illustrators, and the ever-illusive author/illustrators–will focus on one project throughout this three-day workshop. Through one-on-one critiques and peer-to-peer feedback we will prepare your picture book manuscript or dummy for submission.

We will discuss the climate of today’s picture book market and hear from industry professionals about making your book stand out in the pile of submissions. You will hear about the relationship between author and illustrator (and what to do if you are balancing both jobs). Find out how to pace your story to provide the best emotional bang for your readers and how to design successful page turns.

There will be one-on-one critique sessions for your manuscript, dummy, and portfolio, as well as some hands-on time to play and discover, two essential musings every children’s book writer must do.

You must have a completed manuscript and/or sketched dummy to participate in this workshop.

You will be asked to provide a short description of your project two weeks prior to the workshop.
