Special Guest Joni Sussman is the Publisher at Kar-Ben Publishing, a division of Lerner Publishing Group headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota. With over 300 titles in print, Kar-Ben publishes 18-20 new, high quality Jewish-themed children’s titles each year. The company celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2015. Among its award-winning titles is The Patchwork Torah, by Allison Ofanansky, 2015 Winner of the National Jewish Book Award. Kar-Ben publishes both fiction and non-fiction, for preschool through approximately 6th grade, including holiday books, life-cycle stories, Bible tales, folktales, stories about Jewish history, stories about Israel and many other Jewish topics. In particular, Kar-Ben seeks stories that reflect the rich diversity of today’s Jewish family. Joni previously served as Publisher of Minnesota Parent magazine and as Editorial and Marketing Director for Meadowbrook Press, a children’s and parenting publisher. She is a past-president of the Jewish Community Relations Council of Minnesota and the Dakotas, where she continues to serve as Chair of Holocaust Education, and is a member of the board of Books for Africa.
