Tara Lazar

Street magic performer. Hog-calling champion. Award-winning ice sculptor. These are all things Tara Lazar has never been. Instead, she writes quirky, humorous picture books (and one middle-grade book about marvelous words).

Tara’s book 7 Ate 9: The Untold Story won the 2018 Irma S. Black Award for Excellence in Children’s Literature and the SCBWI Crystal Kite for the Atlantic Region. Tara is the founder of Storystorm, an online picture book writing challenge now in its 10th year. She is a co-chair of the annual One-on-One Plus conference from the Rutgers University Council on Children’s Literature. Tara doesn’t know what she loves more, teaching or eating at Highlights Foundation.
