Marilyn Nelson

Marilyn is a three-time National Book Award Finalist and winner of numerous awards, including the Annisfield-Wolf Award, Poets’ Prize, Boston Globe-Horn Book Award, Newberry Honor Award, Coretta Scott King Honor Award, and Michael L. Printz Honor Award. She is the recipient of two NEA creative writing fellowships, a Fulbright Teaching Fellowship, and the Frost Medal, the Poetry Society of America’s most prestigious award, for a “distinguished lifetime achievement in poetry.” Her many books include Carver: A Life in Poems, Fortune’s Bones: The Manumission Requiem, A Wreath for Emmett Till, Faster than Light: New and Selected Poems, 1996-2011, and How I Discovered Poetry. From 2001 through 2006, she held the office of Poet Laureate of the State of Connecticut.
