Juanita’s picture book Jamaica’s Find (illustrated by Anne Sibley O’Brien), still in print after twenty-six years, has won numerous awards and was a Reading Rainbow Review Book. Juanita has written six more picture books about Jamaica and her friends, as well as more than thirty additional books for children. Her middle-grade novel Eyes Like Willy’s was a Crown Lamplighter honor book. Grow: A Novel in Verse earned her the Carol D. Reiser Children’s Book Award and the Santa Monica Green Prize for youth fiction. Juanita’s recent work includes Call the Horse Lucky, a picture book about horse rescue, and poems that appear in the anthologies The Arrow Finds Its Mark: A Book of Found Poems and The Poetry Friday Anthology. Juanita has taught writing for children at Phoenix College and Pima College in Arizona and continues to speak at schools and libraries across the country.
