Rotem Moscovich is Senior Editor at Disney Hyperion. She says: I want to publish books that readers will hug, be it because they’re beautiful, charming, hilarious, magical, or righteous. I primarily edit picture books, chapter books, and middle grade novels, with a very select number of YA books. For picture books, I am looking for the truly exceptional, with clever characters or conceit and inspired/ing art. I tend to enjoy funny and subversive, but can be won over by nonfiction stories that have a strong curricular tie but bring a fresh perspective to a worn subject. I connect with middle grade novels that have transporting writing with creative use of language, and characters with inherent motivation and earned agency. I like books that are feminist, funny, and/or smart of any genre, but particularly connect with immigration stories (fun fact: I was born in Jerusalem!), and anything science-related (I dissected a cat in AP Bio). I care deeply about every facet of bookmaking: from type to case cover art, and everything in between. I have a master’s degree from the Center for the Study of Children’s Literature at Simmons College, and like sewing, bookbinding, baking, and catching up on TV I totally missed when it aired. Find me on the internet to see titles I’ve worked on!
