Janet’s books for young readers have received the Newbery Honor Award (Afternoon of the Elves), the Scott O’Dell Award for Historical Fiction (The Art of Keeping Cool), and Italy’s Premio Andersen Award (How I Became a Writer and Oggie Learned to Drive) among other honors. Lisle graduated from Smith College and spent a year working for VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) before becoming a journalist. She found that she loved writing human-interest and “slice of life” stories, and honed the skills for observation and dialogue that would later serve her in her fiction. She lives with her family on the Rhode Island coast. To read more about Janet, visit her at www.janettaylorlisle.com.
