J. Patrick Lewis

Pat grew up in Gary, Indiana and earned a BA from St. Joseph’s College, an MA from Indiana University, and a PhD from the Ohio State University. A professor of economics at Otterbein College for over two decades, Lewis discovered poetry, and writing for children, later in his life. His first children’s book was published in 1990. Today, Lewis is the author of over 77 books for children, most of them poetry. Lewis writes in many poetic forms, including limericks, haiku, riddles, shape poems, narrative poems, song lyrics and nonsense verse.

In 2011, Lewis was named the third Children’s Poet Laureate by the Poetry Foundation. He was also awarded the NCTE Excellence in Children’s Poetry Award in 2011. One of Lewis’s latest books of poetry for children is IF YOU WERE A CHOCOLATE MUSTACHE.
