Everything You Need to Know About Children’s Book Publishing: A Crash Course 2013 | October 18 – October 20, 2013

This intensive weekend is designed to give you a comprehensive look at how the children’s book publishing industry works. You will gain understanding of all processes associated with producing, submitting, and selling a trade book or magazine article. You will learn from and make connections with children’s publishing insiders.

Workshop leader Clay Winters has served in almost every job imaginable connected with trade publishing. Clay will be joined by children’s book professionals, authors, illustrators, editors, agents, and publishers who will give you insights, answer your questions, and provide you with the tools you need to advance your writing career.

Topics include:

  • An overview of children’s book and magazine markets
  • What publishers are publishing
  • Getting help before you submit—critique groups, books, conferences
  • How to research and submit your manuscript
    • Selecting a publisher
    • Submission rules and practices
  • Rights, contracts, and agents—what authors need to know
  • Acquisition and the editorial process
  • Selling systems, marketing, and promotion
  • Opportunities in e-book and self-publishing

In addition, you will meet with a mentor for a one-on-one review of your manuscript.

Immediately following this workshop, we are offering Everything You Need to Know About Writing Children’s Books, from October 20-22. For a special price of $1045, you can attend both workshops.
