Our Artists-in-Residence program celebrates the commitment these authors and illustrators have made to the field of children’s literature.
Our 2016 Artists-in-Residency include Jerry Spinelli, Eileen Spinelli, Meg Medina, and Suzanne Bloom. Each will spend four days at the Highlights Foundation Retreat Center working on projects for publication. We invite other artists – writers, poets, and illustrators – to join them during their residency. While days will be spent on individual projects, mealtimes will bring all artists together to share farm-fresh food and conversation. After dinner, our artists-in-residence will host informal sharing and feedback sessions for all works in progress.
During Suzanne’s residency, she plans to set up her studio in the belly of the Barn, complete with hanging illustrations, pastel chalk dust, and an ice-cream bar. (Actually, the ice-cream bar is at every Highlights Foundation workshop, but we’ll stock extra just for Suzanne’s studio week.)
Suzanne will support Unworkshoppers at her residency with office hours for consultations and nightly feedback on works in progress. If you have an illustration project or a picture book for the very young that you are near finishing, bring it along with you to Suzanne’s residency. We’ll save some ice cream just for you.
If you would like to join Suzanne, please email Jo Lloyd or call her at 877-288-3410 to sign up for any number of days you choose.
